PET HELPERS

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

PET HELPERS, INC

One Year Anniversary

Can you believe it has been one year and we have been very busy. Pet Helpers, Inc has adopted over 110+ animals and we are going strong. We have also been very involved with our community and helping not only animals but their owners as well. We have had 30,604 hits on our web site this year. We get many calls each day with people reaching out for help from dogs and cats to rabbits and horses.

You may recall the tragedy in Fairmont on January 2009 at the Arbors of Fairmont High Rise on Rt 250. We were able to remove and foster all the animals that were left behind in the building when the residents were not able to take them. Pet Helpers and our volunteers were on site the night of the fires until after 2am and also for many days that followed. Some of the animals were not easily caught and removed to safety, so we continued to go back until all pets where in our care safely . We foster them until the residents could return home. It was a very difficult thing for the people being separated from their pets while the they were not able to return home. Pet Helpers, Inc went to the Fleming Church where many of the residents were being housed to reassure them their pets were fine and being well taken care of.

Dine in or carry out on a cold winter day as we saw many of the coupons we handed out being used at Applebee’s. Another Fundraiser with much success.

In January we were invited to East Dale Elementary school to talk to the students about animals and the importants of taking care of them. The students also collect food, treat and things for the animals and donated to Pet Helpers.

Spaghetti was on the menu at Christopher’s as we did a successful Fund raiser.

In March of 2009 once again we were called upon to help a stray dog. The dog had traveled many miles with very sore and raw paws due to the weather and the salt treated roads. Kyuubi as we know his name now was seen at Dr. Ebert’s office and to our delight when Kyuubi was scanned there was a microchip with his owners information. Our Board Member Terry did much research to find his owner since the number that was showing on the chip was not valid. A very happy ending came when Kyuubi’s owner, once a Fairmont resident, drove from California to be reunited with his beloved Kyuubi.

From Kyuubi’s story we held a Fund raiser "Micro Chip Day". On this day pet owners could get their pets Micro Chipped at a discounted price and proceeds went to Pet Helpers.

In May we were at Creekside Kennels for the Therapy Dog testing. Under our tent you could find the importanst of spay and neuter and also find lots of information about pets. We had JoJo Bones, our t-shirts and Theros Oilve Oil for sell.

We had a great response to the Theros Olive Oil we sold that was made in Greece. We are still getting calls and have ordered more to sell in upcoming Events

1-2-3 did you have the lucky number? This Fundraiser was a calendar with a three digit number and you could win all month long.

September 11 & 12 we had a HUGE Yard Sale at the Hopewell Community Building. This community embraced us with all their treasures. We were set up inside and out and there was not a moment in the 2 days that there wasn’t many people checking out our bargains.

This October 4th, 2009 we will be at the Middletown Mall to help promote Breast Cancer Awareness. The Pink Ladies Night Out will be held from 5:30pm - 8:30pm. Please come out and support this important event. We will have a table there please stop by and say hello to us and any pets we have up for adoptions at that time. See our event page for more details about this wonderful night.

This has been a very busy year and we want to thank each and every person that has supported in so many different ways. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who have adopted our pets and given them wonderful homes. There are not many days that we don’t hear from one of our adoptive families, either with a call, note or a picture to let us know how everything is going. We always want to be kept updated on all animals that have been adopted, from Grace our first adopted animal to the one we adopted today. Each one of these animals have a place in our hearts. We are not adopting just a dog or cat......we are adopting a friend.

Thank you for making our first year a success. It has been challenging and heartwarming. We've made a life time of memories and friendships.

Pet Helpers, Inc

Please look around our web site and the few notes below we have recieved back from this wonderful community.

The entire Fairmont Arbors Apartments can not thank Pet Helpers enough for stepping in during our time of need. You were a true blessing and gift from GOD when you showed up without being asked to help us with our pets during our building fire. Our pets are part of our families and it was a true relief to the residents, family and staff to know that they were safe and being taken care of. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Pam Tucker, Arbors Manager

Lady, oh how we love her. She came to us malnourished, skinny and very, very fearful of

most everything. When we adopted her, we had just lost our best friend, Einstein, and he was an

Einstein. He was the best doggie a person could have. We loved him and his death was

so very hard, we knew we couldn't do that again, it was so hard letting him go.

Not a month after losing Einstein, Tammy sent an email with the usual doggies

that needed homes. We have dial up, so the pictures were coming up slow. All I had to see was the eyes and I was writing a note back to Tammy to say, I think she has a home if she is still in need of

adoption. I saw Einstein's eyes in her and she had to come to live with us.

We have had many struggles and are still working to win her complete trust, but she has become such an important part of our lives. Everyday we see something in her that tells us she is happy to be with us and

we are so happy to have her.

Thanks Pet Helpers, not only for Lady but also Jack and Angelo.

Jack was a referral and he is a great buddy to Lady. Angelo was adopted by my daughter and

she loves him so very much, but I will let her tell that story.

Congratulations, Pet Helpers, you do great work and are so caring about every dog that comes to you.

You guys are the best!!!

This is Rigsby, adopted by Beverly and Bob Jones, Flemington, WV (shown with Bob). Rigsby had almost no personal attention or training during the first months of his life. In his new home, he is free to run the acres we have and always returns, has the freedom of the whole house whether we are home or not and has NEVER been crated. He has graduated from Obedience Training and is much calmer and attentive than ever thought possible. He now weighs about 80 pounds at almost one year of age. He sleeps on his bed in our bedroom or the one in the living room, plays with his toys with Bob, love his Kong and can even point it out to you. We are so glad to have this new addition to our home. Thank you Pet Helpers, Inc. for being there for Rigsby (and Red also, who was adopted by Bev's sister, in Martinsburg, pic of Rigs and Red together attached).

Paige is the perfect addition to our family and we're so happy Pet Helpers found her for us. She's a perfect fit in our family. She loves chewing on sticks in the yard, attacking shoes, and chasing her new brother's tail. Thank you again for finding her for us!

This is Red. Lindsay and I adopted him from Pet Helpers on June 27, 2009. We were told that Red had been pretty much on his own, just roaming and trying to survive. Because of his old lifestyle, it has been a bit of a challenge getting him to trust us. But we have no doubt that he loves us and we fell in love with him. He loves his walks with us and Lindsay has finally gotten him to play with toys, although he won't play with a ball. He loves sleeping beside me on the floor of my room, but he hates coming into the house at night and loves getting back out first thing in the morning.

We love you Red!

"It has been a rewarding experience working with Pet Hellpers.  Not only did they help us by bringing two lights into our lives, but they have been there to offer advice and friendship after we brought our boys home.  If you want to just purchase a new animal for your house-go to a pet store.  If you want to deal with people that care and want to make the animal as happy as the people getting it-go to

Pet Helpers!

Joe and Jim"

Thank you Joe and Jim. I also wanted to share some of the PUPPY SHOWER pictures. This is the first puppy shower that I have ever attended and it was a blast. We had a wonderful time and what a awesome idea.  I hope that more and more new pet owners will have PUPPY SHOWERS!! The puppies loved helping in the opening of their presents and when they knew Jim had treats WATCH OUT!!!

Thank you again!

Lisa

My name is Molly. The person who had loved me for twelve years had to go to a place where she could be cared for, and I could not go with her. Abby and Carol saw my photo on the television, and came to visit me at Pet Helpers. They decided to take me home with them, to see if I would be happy there.

We have learned to love each other very much, and now you could not convince any of us that I should go somewhere else to live.

I am old, and I like to sleep a lot. That is fine with my new family. They understand.

But I do more than sleep.

I take my family for walks along the creek.

I give them lots of love.

I travel with them.

Sometimes, we just sit and watch the world.

I even let them give me baths, so that I smell good in the house..

I am grateful that my former owner allowed Pet Helpers to help me find a new and happy life.

"I had the wonderful opportunity to provide a foster home for one of Pet Helpers' animals in need. Louie the Jack Russell was a delight to have around, and his company was especially meaningful to me as I had recently lost my beloved dog, Bill, to old age. To me, the reward in fostering was that I could provide so much joy and safety to a being in need, and get so much in return. Even though I only had Louie for a week or so before he was adopted, I'll never forget him. Thanks, Pet Helpers!" Candace

We took in a very sick little puppy a month ago that someone had cold heartedly left on our road to fend for himself.  He was covered all over with scabs & open sores & had lost most of his hair.  One look into his sad little eyes made me wonder how someone could be so cruel to another living creature.  We decided to take take him in & took him to the vet to see if he could be helped. We have spent several weeks nursing him back to health & providing a loving & caring place for him to recuperate. We are just amazed at how far this little guy has come. His sores have healed & his hair has almost completely grown back. He is a beautiful puppy with gourgeous, soulful eyes that will steal your heart away. We recently contacted Pet Helpers to help  find a good home for our Charlie boy & was delighted to find a wonderful organization who cares deeply for animals & is willing to go that extra mile to ensure their care & well being. I cannot say enough good things about  Pet Helpers & look forward to helping them in the future.  We will miss our Charlie boy, but we know that he will be going to good & loving home thanks to Pet Helpers.
Thank you so much Lisa for all the kindness you have shown to me & to Charlie &   Laura C.

Good Luck Lisa and thank you so much for all the work you do in saving these wonderful animals. Thank you Pet Helpers.

Great job! You certainly saved the day for these owners and their pets. Sue

Fostering allows you to breathe new life into a dog or a cat who has most often come from a situation where there's been abuse or neglect or abandonment. The unconditional love that an animal shows to anyone who loves it and treats it well makes fostering a wonderful experience.

Thank You Pet Helpers, Inc for being there when I needed help with my cat.  I don't know what I would have done without you. God Bless you in every step you take. Darlene
